OUR 2025 PRE-SEASON PROGRAM IS A CONDENSED VERSION OF OUR ELITE ATHLETE PATHWAYS PROGRAM. THIS IS DESIGNED SPECIFICALLY FOR THE RUGBY LEAGUE ATHLETE INCLUDING ON-FIELD SKILLS & PHYSICAL PREPARATION FOR AN UNMATCHED PROGRAM SYDNEY WIDE.

SYDNEY'S MOST IN-DEPTH RUGBY LEAGUE PRE-SEASON PROGRAM!

IN THIS DAY AND AGE TALENT WILL ONLY GET YOU SO FAR. WE BELIEVE PAIRING SKILL TRAINING WITH THE RIGHT PHYSICAL PREPARATION COULD BE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN YOU MAKING IT, OR MISSING OUT.

Our pre-season program is one we're extremely proud of, it's designed specifically for Rugby League players of all ages to improve their skills and understanding of the game while developing their physical capabilities. A win, win.

This pre-season program helps aspiring and representative Rugby League athletes prepare for the up coming club, Harold Matthews, Lisa Fiaola, SG Ball, Tarsha Gale, Jersey Flegg, NSW Cup Harvey Norman and NRL/ NRLW seasons.

We target the specific components of what specifically Rugby League athletes need from a skills perspective including attack (ball playing skills, offload, efficient catch/pass, position specific game management, kicking, finishing etc), defence (tackle technique, first contact, wrestle, ground based positioning, defensive reads and positioning etc) whilst simultaneously developing the overarching physical qualities required to effectively perform on the field including speed, power, strength and conditioning.

I began working with Luke at MetaStrength when I was 18 and had been dropped from my SG Ball team. Since working with him he has helped me understand the value and importance of hard work and dedication. He cares for his athletes as much as any coach I’ve seen and pairs that with a knowledge of the science behind athletic performance. Without doubt, I wouldn’t be the athlete or person I am today had it not been for Lukes guidance and support through the good times and the bad. I would recommend training at MetaStrength for anyone serious about aspiring to be a professional athlete.

I first started working with Luke when I was 13 as both my brothers were training at Metastrength. Luke convinced my mum to let me play footy. I have learnt so much about technique, commitment, hard work, determination, but more importantly being able to turn disappointment, setbacks and feeling defeated into motivation to keep pushing through to get to your dream. He has a belief in you that is contagious, he creates an environment where you grow, develop, learn and you genuinely enjoy being there. He makes you laugh when you want to cry and shows up to everything him and the Metastrength family can.

Metastrength absolutely changed the way I trained and approached training for the better. Luke and the team gave me so much coaching and guidance in forming not only elite training techniques, but habits too. ASSESSMENT & TESTING

The comprehensive performance testing we do with all our aspiring athletes will help create a PlayBook that sets them up for long-term success. By the end of the testing session, we will know exactly what the athlete needs to become more athletic for their sport. As they say, "What doesn't get measured doesn't get improved."

MOVEMENT QUALITY FOR BALANCE & COORDINATION

When athletes move well, they are already have the advantage. We have a quality over quantity approach. The athlete that is more balanced, coordinated and efficient mover will dominate their competition. Once we lay the foundations of movement quality and build out their movement library, we build athleticism.

STRENGTH FOR RESILIENCE & INJURY REDUCTION

An NRL Head Coach said to me once, "The best ability is availability." Strength underpins everything we do, it is the foundation of which we build all other physical traits on. Strength also protects from injury and builds a strong robust athlete. As we know weak things break, and no athlete likes sitting on the sideline watching their team compete.

POWER & PLYOMETRICS FOR RATE OF FORCE DEVELOPMENT

Most athletes lack ability or knowledge to produce force quickly. High velocity exercises such as plyometrics, jumping, throwing and ballistic movements are a great way to increase this quality. Being an explosive athlete is something that needs to be taught, we implement this with our systemised velocity block. We also coach athletes to land and control deceleration mechanics before we let them fly.

SPEED & AGILITY FOR ATHLETICISM

Nearly all athletes are never taught how to run — it’s just something they do. There is an old saying "You don't know what you don't know." While genetics are set and we can't change them, we can improve upon their running mechanics and make them a more efficient mover to break the game wide open.

RUGBY LEAGUE SKILLS SESSIONS

The skills implemented give real time feedback and education on how to utilise the skill in game of play once it is learned. Head Coach Luke Gordon is highly sort after in the private coaching space and the current skills coach for multiple NRL, NRLW and Representative players. These including dual Penrith Panthers' Premiership winner MItch Kenny and Parramatta Eels' Brendan Hands. It's not just the skills you will be learning, it is a deeper understanding of how the game is played, and won.

WE PREFER THE LATTER, THAT'S WHY WE HAVE YOU WORKING WITH OUR SPECIALIST COACHES IN EVERY SESSION. 

We strategically structure and plan our weeks to leverage the short time we have to get the maximum return - having our athletes leaping ahead of their competition. The key is to have our athletes ready for the demands of pre-season, not Round 1. Too many athletes burn the stick at both ends, and ultimately end up burnt out before the season even starts.

I had just finished my Tarsha Gale season and was looking for someone who could help develop my skills, fitness and speed for the next step in my footy journey. Luke at Metastrength was highly recommended by a good friend and he did not disappoint. He has been there for me when I hurt my shoulder from NSW City U19, my ankle from Harvey Norman, my knee from NRLW rehabbing me back to full strength, in parallel with the teams medical staff.
Training at Metastrength helped me improve in many areas with not only becoming a good player but becoming a good athlete in general. Metastrength isn’t just a facility, but a safe place to be yourself.
